BUSINESS SOLUTIONS

Custom Speech USA is completing a pilot project with independent pathologists near Spokane, WA.  The group needed a digital dictation system that would run "hands-free" in the laboratory.  They selected sound recorder CustomMike for use with Sennheiser microphones.  The sound recorder will be controlled with a standard, three-position foot control commonly used by transcriptionists.

DICTATION WITH PALM PILOT

Custom Speech USA now offers Palm OS software sound recorder, and other accessories for Palm dictation. This may be integrated with Command!™ workflow manager.  Contact Custom Speech USA for details.

HISTORICAL NOTE

"The first machine which recognized speech was probably a commercial toy named 'Radio Rex' which was sold in the 1920s.  Rex was a celluloid dog that moved (via a spring) when the spring was released by 500 Hz acoustic energy.  Since 500 Hz is roughly the first formant of the vowel in 'Rex', the dog seemed to come when he was called."  D. Jurafsky & J. H. Martin, Speech & Language Processing (2000), p. 280.
