BUSINESS SOLUTIONS--THE
"DOWN-UNDER" WAY However, in this setting, the speed of starting Command!™, and then having it launch CustomMike™ each time via a VB script was slow. The main doctor often began speaking as soon as he had instructed Dox that he wished to speak, often dictating while Command was still busy starting CustomMike™. Additionally, the saving of the file back across the slow MPLS link by CustomMike™ meant that the doctor could not proceed any further with the computer until the potentially 1-2 MB file was transferred. Additionally, gaining access to the PCs at the remote site caused some difficulties and required that they were upgraded with new versions of Dox and Command!™ software. This proved somewhat tedious over the remote link. Finally, some members of staff were being confused by Dox running locally and all other applications running in the RDP session. Consequently, Medical I.T. Pty. Ltd investigated RDP Virtual Channels at: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/wceappenduser5/html/wce50convirtualchannelserverapplication.asp. These allowed the system to piggy back on the RDP protocol to pass messages back and forth between an application running on the terminal server and a DLL running on the terminal. Using the message passing, the system was able to run Dox on the terminal server along with the user’s other applications. A simple DLL was written and registered with the RDP client to receive messages from Dox and control a copy of CustomMike™ running on the client terminal, where the microphone was connected.
Command!™ again proved its versatility and that the major difference
between the name-brand, $100,000 workflow solution and the inexpensive
Command!™ product is usually just that--a $100,000.
