5.  Send each child session file to a different transcriptionist or editor for processing
6.  Merge/unscramble completed child session files to generate final document or report

Major Benefit
:  Limit transcriptionist/editor access to confidential information*
Who should use?  Any HMO, hospital, or health system that outsources transcription

You can also selectively delete confidential text and audio to deidentify patient health information.   All features are included with the "Full" edition for only $199.

*Concerning the risks of overseas or outsourced transcription, see Department of Veterans Affairs Office of Inspector General, Audit of Veteran's Health Administration's Acquisition of Medical Transcription Services (VA Office of Inspector General June 14, 2006).  Audit showed that  confidential VHA information was being transcribed overseas and that terrorists and others potentially had access to medical data identifying U.S. service members and their families.  Click here for full report.

RESTORATION OF NEUROMUSCULAR FUNCTION WITH IMPLANTABLE CHIP?

Researchers at Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore) used an analog neural chip to restore a paralyzed cat's locomotion.  The solution may prove implantable in the not-too-distant future.  Physiologically, the coordinated movements of the limbs are produced by a central pattern
generator (CPG).  Sensors and actuators feed signals into spinal cord neurons and respond to output.  Researchers believe that an embedded chip could reproduce this neural process.  S. Bains, "Analog Chip Could Be Rx for Spinal Cord Injury,"  EETimes (September 17, 2007)  The research   has important implications for locomotion and potentially other complex neuromuscular activities such as swallowing and speech.
